Blend
Chenin Blanc (100%), GUNDAGAI
Season
The 2022/2023 growing season commenced with good spring rains, giving way to a temperate summer. Mild, cool conditions through to harvest yielded disease-free, beautifully vibrant fruit.
Viticulture
Chenin Blanc is grown expertly by Simon Robertson and his team at Tumblong Hills on Wiradjuri Country. The soil is a deep, ferrous loam.
Winemaking
High quality grapes were hand-harvested in mid-March at 12.1 Baumé and whole-bunch pressed oxidatively. The juice was fermented on full lees in seasoned Allier puncheons, before undergoing a malolactic fermentation. The wine was bottled in December 2023.
Taste
This dry style offers a mineral, saline, textural quality that makes it very hard to put down. The Parasol Chenin Blanc makes a wonderful match with shellfish or any type of fresh seafood or Asian cuisine.
Praise for the 2023:
"Oh my, one sip and I was hooked. This is a stunner. It’s savoury, although there’s a whisper of lemon and Packham pear – both flesh and skin – a little spicy, too, with white pepper. But it’s the slinky palate with its minerally acid line that makes this so good. There’s an oyster shell character and it’s tangy, a little juicy and so refined, with a lingering finish. 95pts" - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
