Winemaker’s Selection April 2023

Coming to us from the vineyard where the Rose Red City Sangiovese is grown, Alex McKay talks us through the wines he’s chosen for this April’s Winemaker’s Selection.

Featured are two new wine club exclusive wines, the Testudo Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 and the Jim’s Picnic Riesling 2022. Also included are special pre-release wines, the Cherry Orchard Shiraz 2022 and the Firebird Nero d’Avola 2022. The Rose Red City Sangiovese 2019 is being released exclusively to Friends before its wider release later this year.

This wine has been a labour of love – from the years spent researching Italian winegrape varieties in Australia, to working with growers across the Canberra region to plant a range of clones as well as traditional Chianti blending varieties, through to the first vintage of the Rose Red City in 2012 and beyond.
