A quartet of trophies from the Canberra and Region Wine Show

We’ve collected a quartet of trophies from the Canberra and Region Wine Show held in Canberra this week. The Tiger Tiger Chardonnay 2021 was awarded Best Chardonnay, the Lamp Lit Marsanne 2019 was awarded Best Dry White – Other Varieties, and the Lantern Red 2019 was awarded both the trophy for Best Dry Red – Other Varieties, and the Chair’s Trophy. As a boutique producer, it’s a delight to be recognised for excellence and consistency of quality.

“The awards are a really pleasing endorsement of our winemaking and consistency of style,” says Alex. “It takes patience and years of crafting a wine to be able to produce wines that will stand the test of time, and I’m just delighted that the wines have received this recognition.

“Congratulations to the other trophy winners. The wines from this region are amongst the best in Australia and I’m excited to see what the future will bring for the Canberra, Hilltops, Gundagai and Tumbarumba wine regions.”

The Tiger Tiger Chardonnay comes from sites high in the beautiful Tumbarumba region, just south of Canberra, with deep granite soils. The Tiger Tiger Chardonnay is known for its considered winemaking, the power of the chardonnay carefully balanced with the use of whole bunch pressing, barrel ferment and fine-grained French oak.

The Lamp Lit Marsanne is the Collector Wines take on the Northern Rhône variety. Unlike marsanne grown elsewhere across Australia, Collector seeks out hillside aspects that offer good ripening by day while retaining that taut structure and freshness – perfect Canberra locations for these grapes to ripen with the desired flavour profile.

The Lantern Red is always a tempranillo-dominant blend, although the exact blend varies from year to year. Each year, we respond to the season and determine a final blend which brings together a juicy palate with fleshy tannins. This is our bistro wine: fine wine designed for great food moments.

“2021 was an exciting year for us, and included welcoming winemaker Léonore Salançon to the team,” says Alex. “In 2022 we look forward to opening our new Cellar Door in Collector.”

The Tiger Tiger Chardonnay 2021 and Lamp Lit Marsanne 2019 will be available from 1 February.
